The Holiday Guide to Knitted Gifts (2021)

I love knitting for the people in my life. Each year, I love to give knitted Hanukkah and Christmas gifts to my friends and family. I’ve written this guide to help you find a pattern to make knitted gifts for everyone on your list!

If you’re not a knitter and you’re looking for gifts for the knitter in your life, check out my guide to the best gifts for knitters.

Socks for the Whole Family

I personally find it hard to gift cabled socks. They can be hard to pull on and sizing is a bit finicky, especially if your recipient has a high instep.

I designed Cabled Socks for Everyone to solve this problem.

The stockinette on the back of the leg makes these easy to pull on and less dependent on knowing the exact leg/ankle/foot shape of your loved one.

Cabled Socks, but Make them Faster

The Coziest Cabled Socks is a sport weight cabled sock pattern, so they go a little faster if you’re on a tight deadline for your knitted gifts. The cables end after the leg, so the foot just flies. As a bonus, this is a free pattern!

For even more cabled sock ideas, check out my post on cozy cabled sock knitting patterns.

Hats at Any Gauge in Any Size

If you’re looking for a hat pattern that works for knitted gifts for everyone in your family, look no further than my free Hat Pattern Generator. Like my popular sock pattern generator, simply enter your gauge and desired size to get a custom hat pattern.

The generated pattern is stockinette with 2 x 2 ribbing for the brim. You can knit it as-is, or use it as a blank canvas to add your own stitch patterns. Fitted and slouchy options are available.

This one is a great option if you’re looking to make quick and easy knitted gifts, since you can choose any gauge. That means you can choose the bulkiest yarn you can find for a super fast knit.

Something a Little Bit Special

If you have some more time and are looking to make more of an heirloom knitted gift, I recommend Flora Corona or Underbrush. The amount of love and care that would go into knitting either of these pieces makes me think they would be great gifts for Mom.

Flora Corona is a crescent-shaped lace shawl knit in lace or fingering weight yarn with two sizes available and optional beading.

Underbrush is a rectangular lace wrap knit in lace to sport weight yarn. The size is easy to modify.

I hope this helps you find some knitted gift ideas for everyone on your list this year!
