7 Cozy Cabled Socks to Knit in 2021

When the weather starts to turn here in Michigan, I’m always so excited to break out my collection of warm, wooly, hand-knit socks!

Cable knit socks are some of my favorite sock patterns to knit because they remind me of cozy chunky cabled knits, but they’re more portable for knitting on the go.

I’ve rounded up seven beautiful cable sock knitting patterns I think you should make for cozy feet!

Yarn, Needles, Gauge

All of these patterns call for fingering weight yarn and small needles. Make sure to read the details available at each pattern link for all the important info about gauge and needles!

Cabled socks usually work best with solid or tonal yarns, so these are going to be great for budget-friendly solid sock yarns like Cascade Heritage or KnitPicks Stroll, but they will also work with your favorite semi-solid or tonal hand-dyed yarns.

Barbara Socks

Purple cable knit socks

These cable knit socks feature two wide mirrored cables down the front of the leg and the top of the foot. They have wide, stretchy ribbing on the back of the leg so they will be easy to get on and off the foot.

Construction: cuff down with a heel flap and gusset.

Sizes available: S (L): 7.5 (8.5) inch foot and leg circumference, designed to fit with about one inch of negative ease.

Cabled Socks for Everyone

Cabled Socks for Everyone

Cabled Socks for Everyone is designed to be perfect for gift knitting. There is an intricate, slightly unusual cable running down the front of the leg and the top of the foot, framed by two smaller, two-stitch cables.

The back of the leg is worked in stockinette to provide a very stretchy fit, ideal for anyone who has trouble pulling a cabled sock over their heels.

I knit a pair of these for a Christmas gift this year!

The Duke of Wellington Socks feature a set of intertwined cables on the leg and foot. The designer was inspired by the ship her ancestors sailed on to immigrate to Australia. I love the tweed yarn the designer used for this project!
